A peaceful stay in the Gers: ideas around Castet-Arrouy
A few simple ideas for exploring the Lomagne from Les Chambres d’Athéla: villages, markets, heritage, local food, walks and thermal baths.
A few days at Les Chambres d’Athéla give you plenty of time to explore this part of the Gers at your own pace, combining villages, heritage, markets, walks and good food however you please.
Villages and heritage
Around Castet-Arrouy, several villages and small towns are well worth a visit, each for different reasons.
Lectoure for its historic centre, cathedral, ramparts and market; La Romieu for its collegiate church and famous cats; Saint-Clar for its bastide and market hall; Fleurance for its arcades and lively atmosphere.
Sarrant, Blaziert and Cologne show yet more sides of the Gers, while many other places are simply stumbled upon as you make your way along the roads and paths.
A taste of the Gers
Markets, local producers, Gascony wines, Armagnac, Floc de Gascogne... there are plenty of ways to taste the Gers. Several wineries and producers around Castet-Arrouy welcome visitors, particularly in the Lectoure and Fleurance areas.
Take the back roads
Here, getting there is often part of the pleasure. Small country roads wind through hills, fields, woods and villages, and a detour chosen almost at random can lead to a viewpoint, a little church or a village you had never planned to visit.
Walk, cycle... or do nothing at all
The paths and quiet roads around Castet-Arrouy are equally good for walking and cycling. And for a day at a different pace, the Thermes de Lectoure and the Jardins de Coursiana in La Romieu offer two very different ways to slow down.
