Grappe de raisins dans une vigne du Gers en fin d'été

WHAT’S ON NOW

What to see and do now

Late summer in the Gers

The days are still long, the markets are overflowing with summer produce, the grapes are ripening on the vines and the harvest is approaching. Around Castet-Arrouy, late August and September still offer plenty of opportunities to go out, explore, taste… or simply enjoy the gentler end-of-summer light.

Here are a few ideas for the moment, to add to your stay as the mood takes you.

Lectoure’s Été photographique

Every summer, Lectoure becomes a showcase for contemporary photography. The works take over different places around town, offering a different way to discover Lectoure, moving from one exhibition to another.

In Lectoure — until the end of September.

The last Vespérales at the cathedral

On Thursday 27 August at 6:30 pm, Saint-Gervais-Saint-Protais Cathedral hosts the final concert of the summer Vespérales. A lovely opportunity to hear organ music in an exceptional setting.

In Lectoure — free admission.

Discover La Romieu differently

In La Romieu, the Collegiate Church and its cloister are well worth a visit in their own right. At the end of August, special visits also offer a different way to discover the site, including a sensory tour on 27 August.

And since you’re there, take a little time to wander through the village: La Romieu’s famous cats are never far away.

Markets and late-summer flavours

Tomatoes, melons, plums, figs… the markets are still in full summer swing, making this a lovely time to browse the stalls and meet local producers.

In Lectoure, the Friday morning market remains a must. On Monday afternoons, the Locabios market also brings together organic and local producers.

And then there are the vineyards. The harvest is approaching: a lovely time to explore the roads of the Armagnac region, discover the estates and, perhaps, stop for a tasting.

In September, heritage opens its doors

On 18, 19 and 20 September, the European Heritage Days are an opportunity to step through doors that are not always open during the rest of the year.

In Lectoure, several sites take part in the event; around Condom and Larressingle, special visits and openings also offer the chance to discover or rediscover heritage that we sometimes think we already know.

A good weekend to let curiosity guide you rather than following too rigid a programme.

And also, as the weeks go by…

Concerts, shows, flea markets, village fêtes and other small local events continue throughout September. We prefer to point you towards a few chosen ideas rather than an exhaustive programme — and we can always suggest something else depending on what is happening during your stay.
